CSW was established in 1946 by ECOSOC resolution 11(II), and it is the “principal global intergovernmental body” dedicated to advancing women’s empowerment and gender equality. It seeks to advance the civil, political, economic, social, and educational rights of women. The CSW plays a crucial role in advancing women's rights, capturing the realities of women's lives around the globe, and establishing global standards for gender equality and women's empowerment.
