DISEC deals with threats to global peace, disarmament and global challenges. It is the first committee of the general assembly, under the UN charter and is one of the six main committees at the General Assembly of the United Nations. All member states/observers are automatically part of this committee. Some of the main ideas included in its agenda are; international peace and security, economic growth and sustainable development, human rights and justice. It seeks out solutions to the challenges in the international security regime and is a key to maintaining global peace.
