The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes primary focus is on fighting terrorism, organized crime, corruption, and illegal drugs. In order to address the complex issues raised by drug abuse and transnational crime, UNODC collaborates with governments and other partners to create legal frameworks, offer technical assistance, and strengthen institutional capacity. It can effectively respond to new threats because of its evidence-based methods and global reach.
At present, the UNODC is focused on addressing the rising proliferation of synthetic drugs—a phenomenon that has transformed the global drug landscape. With synthetic substances such as fentanyl and methamphetamine contributing to soaring rates of addiction, overdoses, and criminal activity, the agenda seeks to strengthen international cooperation on monitoring, regulation, and law enforcement. Discussions emphasize the need for innovative, coordinated strategies to curb production, distribution, and misuse, while highlighting the public health dimension of this growing crisis.
